Cleaning Process - Fiberglass and Hypalon areas:
We recommend cleaning the entire hull (both fiberglass and hypalon areas) using our very own Fiberglass Surface Prep. Pour the Fiberglass Surface Prep YMA601 onto a 3M® maroon Scotch-Brite® pad. Begin to scrub the surface which is to be cleaned using moderate pressure. Be sure to completely wipe off the surface with a clean, wet cloth ensuring that there are no traces of Fiberglass Surface Prep YMA601 remaining on the surface. Repeat the process until all residues have been completely removed, in order to make the cleaning process easier be sure to change cloths frequently. To be certain that the contamination has been removed, run fresh water over the surface, if the water beads up or separates, you will need to scrub again with Fiberglass Surface Prep YMA601 until the water runs freely on the surface.
Sanding Process - Fiberglass areas only:
Following the cleaning process mentioned above you are now ready to sand the fiberglass. We would recommend using 80 grit sandpaper for this purpose and sanding until you have achieved a flat, matte finish. After this flat, matte finish has been achieved you are now ready to remove the sanding residue with Fiberglass Solvent Wash 202. Be sure to use two rags when doing so and change them out frequently.
Painting Process - Fiberglass and Hypalon areas:
Following the cleaning and sanding process mentioned above, you are now ready to apply Fiberglass Bottomkote Aqua antifouling. We would recommend applying 2 coats of Fiberglass Bottomkote Aqua by 3/8” nap roller or synthetic brush. Be sure to allow the sufficient drying time between the coats. Also, be sure to follow all immersion times as well. Do not apply Fiberglass Bottomkote Aqua if in humid or wet conditions.
